Tougher Timber - A Closer Look at Engineered Wood Products

15 November 07

Plywood is an exceptional material for use in building furniture, and RT London proudly uses plywood in the majority of our products. Its strength and stability surpasses solid wood in performance. Plywood is an engineered wood product (EWP) that was patented in 1865, and has been perfected through the years. For a long time, plywood stood alone as the lone EWP, but that is no longer the case.

Plywood has been the pioneer, leading the way to other EWP’s. Thanks to new technology and the increasing demand to make the most efficient use of our resources (trees), EWP’s have blossomed and are readily accepted in the market. They are strong, straight, true and knot-free.

The following article from This Old House, November 2007 Issue No.113, reviews how the construction industry is embracing many different types of EWP’s. They are a viable alternative to solid wood, and a benefit to our environment.
