Greening America's Schools - Costs and Benefits
26 November 07
When RT London set out to be a greener manufacturer, we decided to do our homework. Talking with our customers who are striving to build LEED certified buildings gave us insight into the energy savings and efficiency. Exhaustive studies of the LEED Building System and other criteria from the U.S. Green Building Council were the next step in understanding the specifics. But studying the positive effects green buildings have on individuals in learning environments was one of our greatest areas of interest. We paid close attention to the health and learning benefits green interiors have on the people who occupy them and the results were pretty impressive.
A Capital E Report from October 2006 entitled Greening America’s Schools Costs and Benefits sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers, the American Institute of Architects, the American Lung Association, the Federation of American Scientists and the U.S. Green Building Council highlights beneficial advances in learning environments that are directly related to green interiors. From improved test scores to fewer reports of illness and asthma and higher teacher retention, this report makes a strong argument for the future of green building, especially in the education market.
