Covenant House of Grand Rapids came to RT London in need of bedroom, lounge and lobby furniture for their brand new building.
Covenant House needed bedroom furniture for 28 single rooms (small rooms, 4’ 5 x 7’ 4). 14 men, 14 women. They wanted to provide individual rooms because most of these young adults have never had anything of their own. They wanted to provide a bed, desk for studying and some storage. They also needed lounge furniture for Enclave rooms (areas of counseling), lounge areas with easily moveable furniture and a welcoming lobby area.
To meet this need, Essix lofted beds, Essentials casegoods and InFlex chairs were used in the bedrooms. Our Natural Maple finish was selected to lighten up the smaller rooms as well as zoned tops in Slate on the desk and chest to add additional color to match the greys in the floor. Our contemporary Turner lounge was used in the lobby area and Lucy lounge and our Westwood Media Center were used in the Enclave rooms and lounge areas. All the yellow and blue fabrics were chosen to match the Covenant House brand colors.
Detroit-based Covenant House built a $3.5 million, three-story, 17,000-square-foot youth home, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Statewide there were 36,811 homeless students reported by public schools for 2016-17.
